Cultural Awareness Workshops

workshopsI offer bespoke cultural awareness workshops for therapy professionals and trainees, which explore the complexities and challenges of working with race, culture, and ethnicity in the therapeutic setting. Theoretical aspects of transcultural counselling are considered, and delegates have the opportunity to take part in experiential exercises exploring the relationship with their own cultural identity, and how this may affect the therapeutic alliance.

Workshops will explore:

  • One’s own culture, assumptions, prejudices, and stereotypes
  • The historical implications of race and racism in counselling and psychotherapy
  • Different aspects of transcultural counselling theory
  • The dynamics of cultural, racial, and ethnic difference in the therapeutic relationship
  • One’s own therapy practice in light of what is multi-culturally therapeutic

Below are some comments made from delegates in past workshops I have facilitated:

Extremely valuable. I gained a lot of personal insights

Really enjoyed both days. Wonderful atmosphere created by the trainers

The whole experience has been very enlightening

I take away many ideas regarding working with difference and feel much more confident about doing so
