Individual Counselling and Psychotherapy

What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy is a confidential and non-judgmental space where you can talk about what you feel is troubling you in a safe and supportive environment. The aim of Counselling and Psychotherapy is to increase self-awareness, helping you feel more empowered to achieve your goals. Counselling and Psychotherapy can be long-term or short-term.

“Give a man a fish and you’ll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”   (Chinese proverb)

How I work

My approach is Integrative and is described by British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy as “when several distinct models of counselling and psychotherapy are used together”. I mainly draw from Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approaches and aim to work together with you, to decipher how we can best work together to achieve your goals.

I would like to highlight that regardless of therapeutic approach, a vast amount of research has shown that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the most effective tool of all. I therefore provide a safe, nurturing and empathic environment in which many issues can be worked with.

How it works and how to get started.

I offer short-term and long-term therapy, depending on the issue you would like to work with. To start, I will ask you to attend a Counselling Assessment in which I will assess how therapy can help you. If I feel that therapy is unsuitable for you, I will endeavour to refer you to the appropriate support. If we agree that my services are likely to be of help to you, we will agree a number of sessions and a regular appointment time will be allocated to you, during or after the Counselling Assessment. Ongoing counselling sessions will be on the same day and time each week for an agreed number of sessions. I will ask you to read and agree to a Counselling Agreement, after which therapy can commence.

Confidentiality and Privacy

The therapy I provide is private and confidential, adhering to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ethical framework. Confidentiality is broken in exceptional circumstances and further information regarding this can be found in the Counselling Agreement.
